Maid in Essex by Andy Tuohy (greetings card)
Hot on the platform heels of his ‘Great Modern Artists A-Z’ book Andy Tuohy continues his celebrated series with a portrait of Chelmsford’s very own cross-dressing royalty, Grayson Perry, in the guise of his female alter-ego Claire.
The portrait references several themes in Perry’s work, including his wife Philippa, a respected and published psychologist; Alan Measles, a teddy bear and fantasy ”surrogate father figure”; the Turner Prize he won in 2003; his CBE awarded for services to contemporary art; and Julie’s House, (A House for Essex), the holiday home he designed with FAT Architects and completed in 2015 in Wrabness, Essex.
This item is also available as a Limited edition giclée print. Edition of 100, signed by the artist.
Andy Tuohy creates retro inspired original artworks of architecture, landmarks, locations and objects. Andy trained as a graphic designer at Liverpool Polytechnic (now John Moores) and worked in publishing and advertising for many years before going it alone as an artist designer. His work often includes subjects as diverse as modernist architecture; coastal landmarks from beach huts to bus shelters; transport; landscapes and seascapes.
